Dan Salter

Dan Salter holds a 3rd Dan in Shotokan Karate and is the lead instructor of our Bushido Warriors Karate programme for children aged 5 to 7.

Having started training in Devon in 1988, Dan found his passion for Karate while at school. After an extended break – starting when his previous club closed – he joined Bristol Karate Academy in 2012 as an adult with the aim of improving his fitness. It wasn’t too long, however, before he got hooked once again and a year later passed his 1st Dan, swiftly followed by his 2nd Dan in 2015 under the KUGB’s chief instructor, Sensei Andy Sherry.

As a youngster, Dan didn’t enter Karate tournaments, but inspired by the club’s success he decided to get involved. As part of the Bristol Karate Academy kata team, Dan took gold at the JKS England Nationals, gold at the KUGB Southern Region Championships and silver at the KUGB Nationals. He has also been the WTKO Irish Open Veteran Kumite Champion and was a silver medallist at the KUGB Southern Region Championships in Team Kumite.

Dan is an advocate of those starting Karate later in life and is a keen believer that it’s never too late to begin, whether for its fitness benefits, to learn something new or even to enter a tournament.

While Dan enjoys helping our adult members he also became the lead instructor for the Bushido Warriors children’s Karate programme in 2016. Dan says that one of his greatest moments of pride will be to see more of our Warriors continue their Karate journeys and to achieve their black belts in the future.
