Congratulations to Oli Hulbert, who secured a super silver at the English Karate Federation International Open on Saturday!

The EKF International Open is a top-level tournament. Held at the historic home of British Karate, Crystal Palace International Sports Centre, the event is mandatory for England’s national squad but also saw athletes from 14 different countries competing for gold.

Oli himself has been on trial for the EKF national kumite squad since winning silver at the EKF English National Championships in April. A result at this tournament would keep him on the radar of the EKF national coaches and show that he’s continued to develop throughout the year.

Oli took his first win against a local fighter – Finley Barrow from Kaisho Karate – before progressing to the final with a win against his JKS England team mate, Jamie Rial.

In the final, Oli was against Ja-Yeon Powell of Kazoku Karate. Despite a valiant effort, the score finished 5-3 to Ja-Yeon and Oli’s silver medal was confirmed. As a result, Oli has now received an invitation to join the English Karate Federations’ National Youth Development Programme.
