Bristol Karate Academy were proud to host the latest JKS Development Series tournament on Sunday 8th September, as JKS competitors from the south of England and beyond travelled to Nailsea School to compete in Kata, Kumite and Kickmaster.

This was the first karate tournament to be held at the school and the sheer number of entries from Academy competitors showed that everyone was delighted to take part in a tournament on home soil.

In sport, a lot of made of ‘home advantage’. As the event started, it looked like this helped buoy the confidence of Bristol competitors, who took gold in three out of four Pairs Kata events. And it didn’t stop there.

While the Development Series is about providing opportunities to karate-ka (karate practitioners) and not just about medals, it’s always a pleasure to see Academy members shining.

In all, Bristol competitors took home 16 golds, 10 silvers and 16 bronze medals from 32 categories. An incredible performance.

The Development Series was put in place by JKS England in order to provide opportunities for everyone to get familiar with tournament karate and to get valuable experience on the tatami. Over the long term, it helps to create a talent pipeline towards the success of the JKS England squad, who recently finished 2nd on the medals table at the BKF British International Open.

Any profits from the event support the JKS England national squad. And with so many squad members hailing from Bristol Karate Academy it was fantastic to see each and every one volunteering their time to help run the event.

Thank you to JKS England for the opportunity to host the event. Thank you to all of the JKS England clubs who supported the event. Thank you to the staff at Nailsea School’s The Link for their support in the run up to the event and on the day. And finally, a massive thank you to the incredible team of JKS England and Bristol Karate Academy referees, judges and volunteers. Without you, it simply wouldn’t have been possible to make it all run so smoothly.
