It was a day to remember for Team Bristol as Academy members descended on the University of Worcester Arena for the annual Central England Open Championships.

The event is one of the biggest in the UK, with over a thousand entries and over 70 clubs and federations taking part. This year the championships also saw entries from France, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands and even one from the UAE.

In all, Academy members picked up fifteen medals – including those representing JKS England – equalling last year’s record total. These included two gold medals.

The first of the two saw Lucie, Nephele and Olive overcoming their fellow competitors to take first place in the 13-15 years Team Kata event. The team were officially representing JKS England, so it was fantastic to see all three girls coming from Bristol Karate Academy.

The second was again as part of a JKS England team. Benjamin teamed up with Fernando Lapa (MK Shotokan Karate) and Jonty Price (Harrogate SKC) in the under 12s Male Team Kumite. And what a team they were! Throughout the three rounds, all three competitors contributed to the victory, taking wins against Milton Keynes, Elite London and JKS England’s own ‘B’ team.

Here are the full results from the Academy:
