22 MEDALS AT MURAYAMA CUP
By Admin
03 March 2025 7:06 pm
A massive congratulations to the team that travelled to the Murayama Cup in Gloucester on Sunday and achieved an all-time Academy record of 22 medals at one tournament!
The event, hosted by KSE, saw 31 different clubs and federations descend on GL1 Leisure Centre to battle it out for the honour of being crowned Murayama Cup champion. Bristol Karate Academy finished an incredible 5th place, finishing with 6 gold medals and 22 of all colours.
In kata, a big well done to Tim, Lucie, Ben, Scarlett, Cameron and Monaghan for all winning their respective categories!
Of all the events, the female 12-15 years brown & black belt kata had the Bristol supporters beaming with pride the most. The top corner of the stands burst into rapturous applause when it was confirmed that Lucie, Nephele and Olive achieved a memorable 1, 2, 3 between them. Ladies, it’s fantastic to see you all going from strength-to-strength!
It was a delight to watch so many medal matches with Bristol competitors in yesterday, so congratulations also to Luke, Benjamin, Calie, Dan, Ian and Annette.
Amongst our 24-strong team, we had medals coming in all age categories – from 7 years to veteran – and in both kata and kumite, showing the tremendous depth and consistency across the Academy.
As is always the case with days like this, not everyone’s efforts result in medals. What the coaches all saw yesterday was a bucketload of brilliant performances and everyone on the right trajectory.
Congratulations to everyone for your drive, determination and positive attitudes, which all set a great example for everyone at the Academy and beyond. It’s certainly noticed by others and appreciated by the coaches.
Thank you to our coaches, who made the day such a positive one for the group. Thank you to the event organisers and officials – including the Tournament Director, Sensei Brian Jarvis – for welcoming us and for giving our members an opportunity to test themselves.
Finally, a big thank you to all of our vocal supporters and fellow competitors for delivering a wall of noise in the moments that mattered. You make sure we’re at our best, get us up when we’re down and cheer our successes, both big and small. You are an incredible, essential part of our team.
This one’s for you.
