A record 13 Bristol Karate Academy members were named as JKS England national squad members at the 2025 squad selections on Sunday.

Our prospects headed to Harrogate, North Yorkshire, to take part in the selection event. The day was led by JKS England squad coach, Sensei Matt Price (7th Dan JKS), supported by his team of assistant coaches throughout the training and selection process.

JKS England have two squads: one for kata athletes and another for kumite athletes. Each discipline has its own training session and selection criteria. We were delighted to see members selected in both disciplines and also across all age ranges: under 11, under 14, cadet, junior, under 21, senior and veterans.

We’re proud to have such strength across the board. A great demonstration to the outside world of the progression members see each day when they look around the dojo at the Academy.

Our squad members will now be representing JKS England at tournaments throughout 2025. The team for September’s JKS Continental Cup in Copenhagen will come from this year’s squad, so there’s lots to look forward to! And with next year’s JKS World Cup being held in Brazil, the coaching team will have one eye on results from this year to help inform the squad that will be travelling to South America!

Well done to those that retained their places on the squad and also to the five members selected for the first time!
