We have Welsh Champions in our midst!

Congratulations to Nephele Metsiou, Olive Davies and Scarlett Jones, who travelled to the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff for the Welsh Open. Our team of three competitors came away with two medals each around their necks!

Nephele battled through four rounds of kata to win the Under 14 Girls’ Kata event, taking the title with a solid performance of Gankaku.

In the next age group up, Olive also became Welsh Open Champion, in the Female Cadet Kata event. Olive got through the rounds with katas Enpi and Sochin, before picking up gold with Bassai Dai.

A third gold came as our newly crowned Under 14s and Cadet champions teamed up in Pairs Kata. Nephele and Olive were an unstoppable duo and between them they took another championship win!

Capping off the performance for the day was Scarlett, who achieved a double bronze. Bronze in Female Junior Kata and a second bronze in Female Junior Kumite.

After two tournaments in two weeks, the Welsh Open marks an end to the competition year for Bristol Karate Academy. What an incredible way to round off 2024 - a year that’s seen so many incredible performances and a record number of medals for our competitors.

Well done, team!
