PRICE SENSEI ON POINT IN NAILSEA
By Admin
10 November 2024 10:20 pm
JKS England squad coach, Matt Price Sensei, was in town today for Bristol Karate Academy’s final special seminar of the year. And it was a cracker!
Matt Sensei – a former European Shotokan Karate Champion and British Grand Champion – is always a popular visitor at the Academy. His incredible combination of technical knowledge and engaging delivery was enjoyed by over 70 karate-ka who took part across the day.
The event also doubled as the Academy’s final kyu grading of 2024. Congratulations to the 52 of you that passed this time around, all achieving full passes and demonstrating such a high standard of karate. All of the instructors were very proud of you and your performances.
The day ended with a session for advanced level karate-ka, with the focus split evenly between kata and kumite.
Kanku Sho was the key focus in the first half of the class. Participants took the opportunity to ask plenty of questions about execution and application of the kata, demonstrating the growth mindset that’s required to push to the next level in karate.
In kumite, Matt Sensei explored a number of key strategies and tactics for controlling fights, changing from defensive thinking to becoming attack-focussed.
We’re truly grateful to Matt Sensei for visiting and teaching our engaged group with such enthusiasm and we look forward to his return in 2025.
A big thank you to everyone for supporting the event, from participants to parents. You created such a great atmosphere on the day! Thanks to those that trained for listening intently and showing your best karate.
Finally, a massive thank you to everyone who helped organise and run the event. A lot of work goes into days like this and without the incredible support of these people – some ‘front of house’ and some behind the scenes – the standard of event we’re accustomed to simply wouldn’t be possible.
