We're pleased to announce that Sensei Ian Connell has formally joined the instructor team at Bristol Karate Academy, following the finalisation of qualifications last month.

After reaching black belt in Judo, Ian joined the Academy in 2004 and has been fully committed to his karate training from that point onwards. Ian passed his JKS Sandan (3rd Dan) in 2021 and brings a wealth of experience to his role.

Ian is, of course, well known to many people across the Academy.  He is dedicated to his training and has been teaching on Wednesdays as well as supporting the Warriors programme on Friday evenings. He has made notable performances at numerous tournaments, including becoming the inaugural KUGB Southern Region Veteran Kumite Champion and a JKS England Veteran Kumite medallist on two occasions. We know that many members have been inspired by his dedication and achievements.

In his new role, Ian will primarily be focused on the development of those working towards Kyu and Mon grades. Like all instructors at the Academy, he is DBS-checked and has completed safeguarding training. Ian is first aid trained and has experience teaching all age groups from age 5 to adult.

We're glad to formalise his position and welcome him as an instructor at the Academy and we’re sure our members will applaud his appointment.
