The weather eased up just a little to give us the opportunity to have a fantastic seminar and grading with the ever-thought provoking Nick Heald Sensei! After highs of 40, a modest 22 degrees was more than enough for over 70 Bristol Karate Academy students and guests to get a healthy sweat on.

Originally billed as a double header seminar, a change in circumstances meant a change to the teaching line-up, with Nick Sensei – a 7th Dan senior instructor in JKS England – leading the full event.  And he certainly had plenty for everyone to think about across the two sessions! A combination of technical points and challenging drills kept everyone on their toes.

The event was also an opportunity for many of our kyu grades to go for their first – or next – belt. We would like to offer a huge congratulations to the 52 students that graded across all age groups. Your performance was excellent. In fact your performances were commended by one of our dan grade visitors in an unprompted conversation several days after the event. This was our biggest ever Bristol Karate Academy grading and so it was fantastic to see both quality and quantity on display.

Our next special seminar and grading is only a matter of months away, on Sunday 4th December. We’ll be announcing our guest instructor and releasing final details soon, so keep the date free in your diary and your eyes peeled!

Thank you to Nick Sensei for leading an inspiring seminar! Thank you to those training with us as guests, who are always very welcome to our open seminars. And finally, a special thank you to all of those from the Academy that helped to make the event run smoothly.
