It was Gold for Bristol Karate Academy's Tim Griffiths at this year’s British Karate Championships in Leicester on Saturday! In the first BKF 4 Nations Championship since the pandemic, Tim was named British Champion in the Male +35 Kata event.

He clinched the title in a gold medal match with the winner of the previous championship in an all-JKS England final, with his performance of Kanku Sho outscoring his fellow squad mate's Unsu

Tim retired from competing in 2018 after over 20 years of taking part in tournaments. Now part of the JKS England squad he's returned to compete on a bigger circuit under the guidance of his long-term mentor, Sensei Matt Price, himself a former ESKA European Champion.

Tim explains, “On the day, I was able to pick up some last minute bits of advice from my coach and team mates. This was hugely helpful when competing,”

Having the right support in place has been vital in the run up to the championships. Tim continues: “Being there with the whole team, including my club mates Josh and Liam, gives you a real boost.

“It fills you with confidence when you’re part of a club like the Academy and a forward-thinking national federation like JKS England. Everyone at the club and the federation is behind you. Thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement.”

JKS England finished a fantastic 8th in the medal table, with the third highest overall medal tally out of the 71 associations and groups that took part. We would like to extend our congratulations to all the JKS England members that took part and look forward to seeing everyone's continued success throughout the year.
