Bristol Karate Academy

Bristol was proud to host the JKS Development Series (Southern edition) for the second time last weekend, with eight JKS clubs taking part.

The tournament provides a perfect opportunity for those not part of the JKS England national squad to gain valuable competition experience, from those competing for the first time to those who have previously won the event. And with the JKS England National Championships less than two months away, it was fantastic to see Bristol Karate Academy doing so well.

It was a great pleasure to see so many people taking part from the Academy’s Nailsea, Backwell, Long Ashton and Westbury-on-Trym dojos, stepping onto the mat and facing their fears. Such a huge amount of bravery is required to put yourself out there and we’re proud of each and every member for how they conducted themselves on the day.

Academy competitors made the most of their home advantage, winning 45 medals in total (three more than last year), including 17 golds – 58% of the total available.

A big thank you to JKS England for choosing to bring the Development Series to Bristol once again, as well as to the referees, judges and first aiders, who came from all across the country to make the event a success. An extra special thank you to the army of Academy volunteers who were critical in making sure the event ran like clockwork – once again commented on by a notable number of those there on the day. You were all incredible.
