Best of luck to our nine members who will be taking part in the 7th JKS Karate-Do International Cup in Brazil from 20th to 23rd August.

The event brings together over 700 athletes from all five continents in Vitória, the state capital of Espírito Santo, around 350 miles north of Rio de Janeiro.

JKS England will be sending a strong team of 51 athletes to the event. At the last JKS World Championships in Japan, only one Academy member was selected to compete. This time around, we have nine members flying the flag – around a fifth of the JKS England team.

A massive good luck to Tim Griffiths, Benjamin Griffiths, Oli Hulbert, Liam Mashford, Luke Mashford, Nephele Metsiou, Dan Salter, George Tarr and Lucie Tarr. They head to Tancredão Gymnasium to compete amongst the best Shotokan karate competitors on the globe for the honour of being named JKS World Champion.

While the international seminar and formalities including weigh-ins and accreditation take place on the 20th, the opening ceremony kicks things off the following day, featuring athletes from the 30 countries in attendance and a Samba performance to bring the Brazilian carnival vibe.

It’s an incredible honour to have so many Bristol athletes as part of the event and no matter what happens, we know they’ll do us all proud.
