MEDALS AND MEMORIES AT MURAYAMA CUP

Academy competitors stepped onto the tatami at the Murayama Cup on Sunday in Gloucester and did so in style, taking home four titles and 15 medals in total.

With a strong squad lining up in the blue of Bristol, the day looked set to be a busy and eventful one, with competitors simultaneously on most of the five tatamis throughout much of the day.

While there were plenty of medal-winning performances, there were also exceptional performances right across the board in kata, kumite and strikemaster.

One of the most exciting ties of the day was Oli Hulbert’s cadet kumite quarter final match which finished with a score line of 11-12 against the eventual winner – agonisingly close to another medal. With Academy competitors only one round short of a medal in 16 instances, it shows just how close so many of them came. Congratulations to you all.

Congratulations also to our four champions, who all took gold in kata events. Luke in Boys’ Kata with ‘Sochin’, Cameron in Para Kata with ‘Bassai Dai’ and both Benjamin Griffiths and Tim Griffiths in their respective categories, with ‘Gojushiho Sho’.

Thank you to our incredible band of supporters, who are an integral part of the Academy team. Thanks also to Sensei Dan Salter who worked tirelessly, coaching from 8am until our very last event. Finally thank you to the organisers and officials, without whom we would not be able to compete.

We now look forward to our next competitions, including the Central England Championships on 28th June. If you’d like to compete for Bristol Karate Academy, speak to your instructor at your next class to find out more.
