Upcoming events at our clubs or open to our members

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to play havoc with the organisation of karate events, the 2021 calendar is understandably very sparse at present. We'll add more events as soon as they're announced. While this calendar will provide a summary of some of the key events available to our members, please note that there may be other opportunities to train or compete. Click on an event title below to expand for more detail.

The first class of 2021 takes place on Sunday 3 January 2021, running for under 18s in Backwell Parish Hall and on Zoom. All spaces must be pre-booked. Face-to-face spaces are limited.

 

What is it?
Kangeiko means "cold training". It is a week-long training programme in mid-winter to start the lunar year with a high levels of effort, spirit and commitment. Each session is an early morning class that begins with a short outdoor run and is in addition to your normal classes. Everyone that completes an entire week of Kangeiko will be presented with a certificate at the end of the week.

Please note, we do not hold classes on Good Friday or Easter Sunday. No other classes are affected.

 

What is it?
A crossover grading for Bristol Karate Academy members that are full KUGB 1st kyus and hoping to take a dan grading in July 2021.

What time?
11.00am-12.00pm

Who is this open to?
Members that have been training on the JKS 1st kyu syllabus since the beginning of the year.

What is it?
A grading examination for children aged 11 and under that are going for their 12th-10th kyu or for a mon grade. Those going for a 9th kyu and above will grade at a separate event.

6.30pm-7.30pm

Who is this open to?
Members only that have completed the minimum number of sessions required to grade and have been given permission.

What is it?
A special seminar open to members and non-members with JKS England national coach, Sensei Matt Price! This event incorporates a kyu grading for those 9th kyu and above.

Venue opens: 11.00am
All-grade seminar: 11.30am-12.45pm
Kyu grading: 12.45-1.45pm
1st kyu and dan grade seminar: 2.00-3.30pm

What is it?
Black belt exam for 1st - 3rd Dan with chief instructor to JKS England, Sensei Alan Campbell. There will be a seminar beforehand for those graded 1st kyu and above.

What is it?
An open squad training event for those that used to regularly compete prior to the pandemic.

What time?
Kata: 11am-12.30pm
Kumite: 1-2.30pm

Who is this open to?
BKA competitors graded 1st Dan and above who hold an up-to-date JKS England licence.

What is it?
All-styles karate championships that attracts entries from across the UK. The tournament follows WKF-style rules (not shobu ippon).

Where is it?
University of Worcester Arena, Chequers Lane, Worcester, Worcestershire, England, WR2 5JN, United Kingdom

What time?
Registration from 8.30am. Tournament starts at 9.30am. Competitor 16 years and above do not need to register until 12.30 to commence at 13.00 this also includes Kata.

Who is this open to?
BKA members graded 1st kyu and above who hold an up-to-date JKS England licence.

What is it?
Grading for all grades below 9th kyu. This is a standalone grading, with more details to be sent to those that are eligible to take part nearer to the time.

What is it?
